Monologues
I often let characters speak for themselves. Sometimes at length. In theatre terms these speeches are called monologues. To me they're a way of strengthening the connection between the character and the audience. When I start a play with one it is either an introduction or a warning of what lies ahead. This Substack post is the first in a regular series of monologue posts, to be published on Wednesdays. Today’s two speeches are for a woman, and a man. I’ll include gender neutral material in future posts. These monologues are often a route to the very essence of what the plays are about. Good for auditions. Acting classes. Or just messing around.
